Getting Bereavement Right Every Time

Bereavement Learning Session

22/07/25

In June NHS Education for Scotland (NES) ran a new learning session ‘Getting Bereavement Right Every Time’ which was aimed at health and social care staff.

The session received very positive feedback from attendees.

NES will be running repeat sessions for health and social care staff to attend. The next date will be Thursday 11 September, 13:00-15:00. Registration is now open.

The session will provide an introduction to grief and bereavement. Knowing how to manage situations where we encounter a person who is bereaved is important, but thinking of what to say may feel daunting. The session may help attendees feel more confident in answering questions e.g.

  • What should I say to someone who tells me they have been bereaved recently?
  • Are there any particular words I should or shouldn’t use?
  • What if I say the ‘wrong’ thing?
  • Is it normal to be upset if someone we know from work dies?
